Alexander was born on December 27th, 1893 in Alva.1   Alexander's father was Alexander Jeffrey and his mother was Jessie Archibald Somers Mouat.  His paternal grandparents were John Jeffrey and Janet Richardson; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Mouat and Janet  Drysdale. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, William Drysdale, Lawrence and Jessie Archibald Sommers (Nett).  He died from cancer, Myeloid Leukaemia, Benign Enlargement Prostate, at the age of 76 on March 29th, 1970 in City Hospital, York.  The funeral took place in Middlethorpe.2 1
