Mary was born in 1889.1   Mary's father was Henry Allan and her mother was Isabella Hunter.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Allan and Devina Cook; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Hunter and Mary Gray. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Henry, Joseph, Jim, Robert, <Unknown>, Ina, Isabella , Jeannie and Elspeth.  She was the oldest of the ten children.
