Charles was born in 1868 in Fladbury, Worcestershire.1  Charles' father was Edmund Izod and his mother was Harriet Vale.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Izod and Ann Boulter; his maternal grandparents were William Vale and Jane Hewlett. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, Alfred, The Thatcher, Jane and Lucinda.  He was the youngest of the six children.
