Jane was born in 1851 in Fladbury, Worcestershire.1   Jane's father was Edmund Izod and her mother was Harriet Vale.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Izod and Ann Boulter; her maternal grandparents were William Vale and Jane Hewlett. She had four brothers and a sister, named William, Alfred, The Thatcher, Charles and Lucinda.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
