Alfred was born in 1854 in Fladbury, Worcestershire.  Alfred's father was Edmund Izod and his mother was Harriet Vale.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Izod and Ann Boulter; his maternal grandparents were William Vale and Jane Hewlett. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, The Thatcher, Charles, Jane and Lucinda.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 82 in 1936.
