Death Notes
Within a two week period in October 1854 8 people in Liberton died of Cholera.

"The third pandemic, generally considered the most deadly, originated once again in India. It devastated large swaths of Asia, Europe, North America and Africa. In 1854, the worst year, 23,000 died in Britain alone. In that same year, British physician John Snow succeeded in identifying contaminated water as the transmitter of the disease, a breakthrough in eventually bringing it under control. Snow carefully mapped the cases of cholera in the Soho area in London and traced the source to a water pump. After convincing officials to remove the pump handle, the number of cholera cases in the area immediately declined."
General Notes
James Mary and family left Fife and moved to Craigmillar, Edinburgh between 1838 and 1840 where he worked as an agricultural labourer. He was elected Beadle at Liberton Kirk following a Kirk Session meeting on 19th May 1848, accomodation was provided with this job. After his death in 1854 and in order to keep a roof over the heads of the family, the Session elected son George, Beadle, at a meeting on 10th November 1854. George resigned the post on 11th April, 1859 when he became a ploughman at Burdiehouse.

James' occupation was Agricultural Labourer in agriculture.From May 19th, 1848 his occupation was Beadle in services for Liberton Kirk, in Liberton, Midlothian, Scotland, UK. He died in 1854 while still employed there.3
