George was born on March 23rd, 1838 in Ceres, Cupar, Fife, Scotland, UK and his baptism took place on April 8th, 1838.1 2   George's father was James Wallace and his mother was Mary Nicholson.  His paternal grandparents were George Wallace and Katherine  Ballingall; his maternal grandparents were George Nicholson and Agnes Duncan. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Alexander, Andrew, Catherine and Agnes.
