Alexander was born on August 8th, 1860 in West Saline, Fife.1   Alexander's father was Alexander Mouat and his mother was Janet  Drysdale.  His paternal grandparents were Alexander Mouat and Janet  Cunningham Sommers; his maternal grandparents were William Drysdale and Janet Archibald. He had a brother and a sister, named Lawrence and Jessie Archibald Somers.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died due to a cardiac arrest, Epileptic Convulstions, Jaundice, at the age of 50 on October 22nd, 1910 in Gladstone Terrace, Dunoon, Argyll.2
